Our goal is to restore, maintain and protect tigers as well as their habitat and prey base in important tiger landscapes in India.

The objectives are to:

Protect, restore corridors to ensure connectivity between tiger habitats while ensuring that human-tiger conflicts are reduced.

Reduce pressures on the tiger habitats by promoting alternative livelihoods for local communities in and around tiger habitats.

Create incentives for local communities as well as state and regional government and opinion-makers to support tiger conservation.

With one tiger, we protect about a 100 sq. km of forest

Volunteer with us

Volunteer form for ‘Save Our Tigers’ campaign

What you can do to save the tiger?

The tiger is not just a charismatic species. It’s not just a wild animal living in some forest either. The tiger is a unique animal which plays a pivotal role in the health and diversity of an ecosystem. It is a top predator and is at the apex of the food chain and keeps the population of wild ungulates in check, thereby maintaining the balance between prey herbivores and the vegetation upon which they feed. Therefore the presence of tigers in the forest is an indicator of the well being of the ecosystem. The extinction of this top predator is an indication that its ecosystem is not sufficiently protected, and neither would it exist for long thereafter.

If the tigers go extinct, the entire system would collapse. For e.g. when the Dodos went extinct in Mauritius, one species of Acacia tree stopped regenerating completely. So when a species goes extinct, it leaves behind a scar, which affects the entire ecosystem. Another reason why we need to save the tiger is that our forests are water catchment areas.

When we protect one tiger, we protect about a 100 sq. km of area and thus save other species living in its habitat. Therefore, it’s not just about saving a beautiful animal. It is about making sure that we live a little longer as the forests are known to provide ecological services like clean air, water, pollination, temperature regulation etc. This way, our planet can still be home to our children.

Without adequate and timely protection there is a real possibility of these children never seeing a tiger in the wild once they grow up

Spread the word: Go out loud and tell others that tigers are dying and that they need our help. You can form forums (or join existing ones) on the web for discussions and exchange views on tiger conservation. Reach school going children. WWF can help you in this regard.

Be a responsible tourist: The wilderness is to be experienced and not to be disturbed and polluted. Follow the forest department guidelines when visiting any wilderness area, tiger reserve in particular. As the saying goes ‘Don’t leave thing anything behind except foot steps, and don’t take anything except memories.’

Write to the policy makers: If you are really concerned and feel that more needs to be done for tiger conservation, then write polite letters to the decision makers - the Prime Minister, the Minister for Environment and Forests or even your local MP.

Informing the nearest police station: If you know of any information on poaching or trade of illegal wildlife. You can also contact TRAFFIC- an organisation fighting the powerful poachers and pass on the information to them.

Reducing pressure on natural resources: By reducing the use of products derived from forests, such as timber and paper.

Thank God!! Energy competence is something that we populace most often associate with this term and that is positively an essential part of eco-friendly homes, but there is more to being eco-friendly than just saving energy, a whole lot more. Now, there are many eco friendly companies who present this kind of services. True eco-friendly homes should be shaped from materials that are either recycled or at least are not made from vestige fuels that are why you need to add your green company at the eco directory. Eco-friendly homes are about reducing waste, making better use of space and keeping things clean. Reduce, re-use, recycle is the mantra of the eco-friendly home builder. In fact, even the construction techniques used to make a home can be easier on the atmosphere. Builders are starting to think about building homes on fewer square feet of land (more earth left for plants to grow) and even including roof top gardens that help to insulate the home, while making more room for carbon monoxide-loving oxygen-producing plants, to grow. That is an example of what it truly means to "go green" with eco-friendly homes. Even small things like building the home in a south facing position can help to make better use of natural sunlight which can help the home to be more energy efficient.

Caring of your pets

I use to get lot of comments at my blog related to dog beds, crate mats, pet food and many more like that. I got a site called Article Alley where I can get Free pet articles for my blog. But today, I am going to tell you very important thing and this is how to take care of your pets. It is very important that we all know how to take care of our pets and birds. Only then, our pets and birds can be healthy.

If you are planning to buy a new pet at your home then at the same time you should also buy the Dog Care Guide book. In the same way, you can also take care that you buy all the essential pet care products. There are some online site where you can easily find Cat caring products, fish caring, horses caring as well as Bird caring products. You should have all kinds of caring products for your pets like Food, Grooming, Feeders, Litter, Bedding, Transport and many more like these. If you have birds at your house then you should keep Bird food, bird cages, bird cages accessories and other essential products. As I have moved to a new apartment then I am considering to buy small pets either rabbit or Guinea. Small pets are really the good option in this recession market because they are very low-maintenance. Enjoy with your pets and birds!!!

I love doggy

Hi visitor, this Animals and Birds Life Blog gonna be completed one year and I really want to thank to all of you for making it a successful blog for pets. I had received lots of comments to post about the different pets and birds and I have never disappointed my visitors.

As you know that I love writing about Pets but when it comes to the matter of taking care of any pets then that was the most difficult task for me. But now, I can say confidently that I can take care of pets and thanks to the Tails R Wagging pet online store that has provided all the services for pets like pet clothes, pet food, pet meditation, new baby info and many more important things. I finally bought 6 month old dog from sydney. But the problem was that I had to go out of the city for one week and the dog was too small that I cannot give it to any of my friends. Then I gave it to doggy daycare sydney and you won't believe they take care of my dog in such a way like it is their dog. They have very well educated, expertise, and entertained people to take care of any pets at safe place. They make sure that they will take care of everything. When I took back my dog then I found him healthier. I informed about this online store to all my friends and one of my friend decided his cavoodle puppies for sale sydney. Very soon, I am going to buy a new doggy and once I will buy it I will let you know with the pictures.

breast augmentation

Hello, I am happy to announce all of you that I finally got married. We got married at Los Angeles. I am really enjoying this period of time. We (me and my wife) almost share each and everything to each other. Now, I came to much more about women closely than earlier.

My wife asked me for her breast augmentation and generally lots of women do their breast augmentation for different reasons. After consulting with many, we decided to visit los angeles breast augmentation as this is the best one and they take care of every small things. She was also thinking about rhinoplasty but I told her to wait till December 2009. The result was really very good and then I also suggested my sister-in-law about it and she also visited los angeles cosmetic surgeon. She is also very impressed with the result. After her cosmetic surgeon, she is looking 5 year lesser than her normal age.

Earlier, there were many people who don't want to use these things. They felt that it would have given them side effect after the treatment. But now things have changed with the adaptation of new technology. I was also the part of them now I really support these things as it is fully safer.

Guide to buy puppies

We all wish to have a puppy at our home but the main problem is that we common people don't know from where and how we should buy it. I was also suffering from the same problem but my friend named Rinki advised me to buy it online. There, you will get full all the information what you are looking for. You will get the proper details of the Breed information. You will get many online shopping sites where you will get a small category for the puppies for sale but this site is fully based on Puppies for sale. You can easily get your favorite dogs under Dogs for sale and good thing is that you can also get Stud Dogs there. Under Stud Dogs, you will get the listing of dogs like Yorkshire Terrier, Hungarian Vizsla and Poodle (Toy). Not only you can buy puppies there but also you can sell your puppies. They also provide the services for the insurance of your pets.

<img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; The antlers have individual tines that grow upward from each of the main beams.

Distribution - The mule deer has the widest distribution of the deer found in British Columbia, occurring as far north as the Liard River Valley and throughout the interior as far west as the coast mountains. The whitetail deer resides in the lower south-east corner of the province. Found only in BC is the Northwest Whitetail deer.

Biology - Deer are browsers rather than grazers and feed on a variety of vegetation including green plants, nuts and corn, and trees and twigs. Although the deer is a good swimmer and runner (reaching speeds of 35 mph) it falls prey to a number of animals including the cougar, domestic dog, wolf, coyote, lynx, bobcat and bear. Once this species was endangered but it is now more abundant than ever.

Tracks - The mule deer has a distinct "bound" in which all four feet come down together as if on springs. The tracks will vary from a rough "V-shape" while running to a straight line with slower speeds. The track varies according to the surrounding landscape. In soft, woodland areas the print is more pointed and on harder ground where the hoof may be worn, the track may appear with a blunter tip. The hoof print may be described as two paisley shapes facing one another with smaller "dots" of the dew claws at the wider end of these paisleys.

                              Straddle: 15.5 cm (6.2 in)
Stride: 50 - 61 cm (20 - 24.4 in)
Track: 8.5 cm (3.4 in) long / 6.5 cm (2.6 in) wide

The key difference in distinguishing the gallop of the white-tailed and mule deer is while the mule tends to bound as if on springs, the white-tailed deer "rocks" by swinging its hind feet ahead of the front ones. The white-tailed deer is known to drag its hooves between steps creating troughs between each print. Male deer of all species (except the Chinese water deer) grow and shed new antlers each year – in this they differ from permanently horned animals such as antelope – these are in the same order as deer and may bear a superficial resemblance. The Musk deer of Asia and Water Chevrotain (or Mouse Deer) of tropical African and Asian forests are not true deer and form their own families, Moschidae and Tragulidae, respectively. All other animals in Africa resembling deer are antelope.

The word "deer" was originally quite broad in meaning, but became more specific over time. In Middle English der meant a wild animal of any kind (as opposed to cattle, which then meant any domestic livestock). This general sense gave way to the modern sense by the end of the Middle English period, around 1500. Cognates of English "deer" in several other languages still have the general sense of "animal – for example German Tier, Dutch dier, and Scandinavian djur, dyr, dýr. "Deer" is the same in the plural as in the singular.

Deer are widely distributed, and hunted, with indigenous representatives in all continents except Antarctica and Australia, though Africa has only one native species, the Red Deer, confined to the Atlas Mountains in the northwest of the continent.

Deer live in a variety of biomes ranging from tundra to the tropical rainforest. While often associated with forests, many deer are ecotone species that live in transitional areas between forests and thickets (for cover) and prairie and savanna (open space). The majority of large deer species inhabit temperate mixed deciduous forest, mountain mixed coniferous forest, tropical seasonal/dry forest, and savanna habitats around the world. Clearing open areas within forests to some extent may actually benefit deer populations by exposing the understory and allowing the types of grasses, weeds, and herbs to grow that deer like to eat. Additionally, access to adjacent croplands may also benefit deer. However, adequate forest or brush cover must still be provided for populations to grow and thrive.

about Pet Buying Guide

If you are searching any Online Shopping site for Gifts, Gadgets, Apparel or any other product then you will get many sites but it's really tough to get good site for Online Pet shopping. Their stripes come in different patterns unique to each individual. They are generally social animals and can be seen in small harems to large herds. Zebras are generally 2.3 m (8ft) long, stand 1.25-1.5 m (4-5ft) at the shoulder, and weigh around 300kg (660 lbs), although some can grow to more than 410 kg (900 lbs). In addition to their stripes, zebras have erect, mohawk-like manes. Unlike their closest relatives, horses and donkeys, zebras have never been truly domesticated.

There are three species of zebra: the Plains Zebra, Grevy's Zebra and the Mountain Zebra. The Plains zebra and the Mountain Zebra belong to the subgenus Hippotigris, but Grevy's zebra is the sole species of subgenus Dolichohippus. The latter resembles an ass while the former two are more horse-like. Nevertheless, DNA and molecular data show that zebras do indeed have monophyletic origins. All three belong to the genus Equus along with other equids. In certain regions of Kenya, Plains zebras and Grevy's zebras coexist.

The unique stripes and behaviors of zebras make these among the most familiar animals to people. They can be found in a variety of habitats, such as grasslands, savannas, woodlands, thorny scrublands, mountains and coastal hills. However, various anthropogenic factors have severely impacted zebra populations, in particular hunting for skins and habitat destruction. Grevy's zebra and the Mountain zebra are endangered. While Plains zebras are much more plentiful, one subspecies, the quagga, went extinct in the late nineteenth century.

Zebra Profile
No animal has a more distinctive coat than the zebra. Each animal's stripes are as unique as fingerprints—no two are exactly alike—although each of the three species has its own general pattern.

Why do zebras have stripes at all? Scientists aren't sure, but many theories center on their utility as some form of camouflage. The patterns may make it difficult for predators to identify a single animal from a running herd and distort distance at dawn and dusk. Or they may dissuade insects that recognize only large areas of single-colored fur or act as a kind of natural sunscreen. Because of their uniqueness, stripes may also help zebras recognize one another.

Zebras are social animals that spend time in herds. They graze together, primarily on grass, and even groom one another.

Plains (Burchell's) zebras are the most common species. They live in small family groups consisting of a male (stallion), several females, and their young. These units may combine with others to form awe-inspiring herds thousands of head strong, but family members will remain close within the herd.

Zebras must be constantly wary of lions and hyenas. A herd has many eyes alert to danger. If an animal is attacked, its family will come to its defense, circling the wounded zebra and attempting to drive off predators.

Fast Facts of Zebra
Type: Mammal
Diet: Herbivore
Average lifespan in the wild: 25 years
Size: Height at the shoulder, 3.5 to 5 ft (1.1 to 1.5 m)
Weight: 440 to 990 lbs (200 to 450 kg)
Group name: Herd
Size relative to a 6-ft (2-m) man:

Kangaroo Life

The Kangaroos
----------------------Basic Information about Kangaroos:

Kangaroos are native to Australia they usually live in warm, dry places.

Kangaroos are mammals and are covered in hair or fur.

Kangaroos are special because they belong to a group of mammals called marsupials.

The female gives birth to live young and the joey lives in their mother's pouch until they are big enough to look after themselves.

Kangaroos usually feed during the night or early in the morning, they eat grass and leaves and drink water. A kangaroo's life span is usually between 15 - 20 years.

Wild Kangaroos Pictures in Australia

Some interesting points of Kangaroo:

Did you know?

* A male kangaroo is called a buck. It is also commonly called a "boomer" or an "old man".
* A female kangaroo is called a doe, or a flyer.
* A baby kangaroo is called a joey.
* Kangaroos have good eyesight but only respond to moving objects.
* They have excellent hearing and can swivel their large ears in all directions to pick up sounds.
* Kangaroos are social animals that live in groups or "mobs" of at least two or three individuals and up to 100 kangaroos.
* Kangaroos are the only large animals that move by hopping.
* Most kangaroos can only move both back legs together - and not one at a time.
* Male kangaroos "box", either in play, when asserting their dominance or in serious competition over females. The punching of the front legs is pretty harmless, but the powerful hind legs with their long sharp toenails are a dangerous weapon.
* Kangaroos can disembowel opponents, be it other kangaroos or predators like dogs.
* A female kangaroo can have three babies at the same time: an older joey living outside the pouch but still drinking milk, a young one in the pouch attached to a teat, and an embryo awaiting birth.
* In Greek, macropod means “long foot”, which is appropriate as most macropods have very long hind feet with long strong toes.
* The Western grey kangaroo males are known as stinkers due to their strong, curry-like smell.

Kangaroos and wallabies are pouched mammals, or marsupials, of Australia and nearby islands. Kangaroos and wallabies have hind legs enlarged for leaping. Most species live on the ground, and some in trees. The name kangaroo is usually used for large species, and wallaby for smaller ones. They all belong to the family Macropodidae, meaning "big footed," and they are herbivorous, or plant-eating animals.

Kangaroos and wallabies hold the same place in the ecosystem as ruminants, such as deer. They graze and have similar mechanisms for chewing and digesting plants. There are over 60 different species of kangaroo and their close relatives, with all kangaroos belonging to the super family Macropodoidea (or macropods, meaning ‘great-footed’). The super family is divided into the Macropodidae and the Potoroidae families.

The Macropodidae (macropod) family includes kangaroos, wallabies, wallaroos, pademelons, tree-kangaroos and forest wallabies. Species in the macropod family vary greatly in size and weight, ranging from 0.5 kilograms to 90 kilograms. The Potoroinae (potoroid) family of kangaroos includes the potoroo, bettong and rat-kangaroo, which live only in Australia.

Kangaroos of different types live in all areas of Australia, from cold-climate areas and desert plains, to tropical rainforests and beaches.
Life and habitat

Kangaroos are herbivorous, eating a range of plants and, in some cases, fungi. Most are nocturnal but some are active in the early morning and late afternoon. Different kangaroo species live in a variety of habitats. Potoroids, for example, make nests while tree-kangaroos live above ground in trees. Larger species of kangaroo tend to shelter under trees or in caves and rock clefts.

Kangaroos of all sizes have one thing in common: powerful back legs with long feet. Most kangaroos live on the ground and are distinguished from other animals by the way they hop on their strong back legs. A kangaroo’s tail is used to balance while hopping and as a fifth limb when moving slowly.

All female kangaroos have front-opening pouches that contain four teats. This is where the ‘joey’, or young kangaroo, is raised until it can survive outside the pouch.

Most kangaroos have no set breeding cycle and are able to breed all year round. Because they are such prolific breeders, a kangaroo population can increase fourfold in five years if it has continuous access to plentiful food and water.
Kangaroo management and use

Kangaroos have long been important to the survival of Australia’s Indigenous peoples, who have hunted kangaroos for tens of thousands of years for both the meat and the skins. When Europeans arrived in Australia in the late eighteenth century, they too hunted kangaroos for survival.

Kangaroos continue to be used as a resource, but only under strict government controls. All Australian states and territories have legislation to protect kangaroos. Only the four most abundant species of kangaroo and small numbers of two common wallaby species can be commercially harvested for export, and then only by licensed hunters in accordance with an approved management plan. These species are the Red kangaroo, Eastern grey kangaroo, Western grey kangaroo, Common Wallaroo (Euro), Bennetts wallaby and Pademelon (a type of wallaby).
Kangaroo harvesting and the environment

Kangaroos Pictures in Zoo

The Australian rangeland environment is fragile and easily degraded. Kangaroos have evolved as part of the Australian ecosystem and, with their soft feet, cause no environmental degradation at natural population levels. However, kangaroo populations have increased dramatically since European settlement in these areas due to the introduction of European farming methods and, for this reason, carefully controlled harvesting is required.

Kangaroo harvesting is carried out under the strict environmental controls provided by the Australian Government’s Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999. The commercial harvesting of widespread and abundant kangaroo species contributes to the sustainability of the Australian environment.

The four species of kangaroo that are commercially harvested have very large populations. None is threatened or endangered. The Red kangaroo, Eastern grey kangaroo and Western grey kangaroo are the most abundant species and make up over 90 per cent of the commercial harvest. Their combined population size has fluctuated between 15 and 50 million animals over the past 25 years in the harvested areas, depending on seasonal conditions.

The harvesting of kangaroos is permitted on a quota basis that is reviewed annually and independent of market demand. Quotas are set on the basis of population size and trends, and long-term climate predictions. Conservation of the species remains the foremost consideration. This approach ensures that the harvesting of kangaroos is managed in an ecologically sustainable way.

There is no farming of kangaroos in Australia. Kangaroos are harvested in the wild by licensed hunters.
The kangaroo industry

Australia’s kangaroo industry began exporting kangaroo meat to Europe in 1959 in response to interest from the European game meat industry. Today kangaroo meat and skins are exported all over the world.

The live export of kangaroos is prohibited under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act. There are a few exceptions where the purpose is noncommercial, such as inter-zoo exchanges.

Where kangaroos are taken for commercial use, they must be killed by a licensed, fully trained hunter. An Australian Senate Select Committee on animal welfare, after an extensive investigation, concluded that: ‘There is no doubt that the shooting of kangaroos by professional shooters is the most humane way of killing kangaroos’.

Animal welfare considerations are a priority of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act. Kangaroo harvesting and processing is subject to strict regulations and all hunters face penalties if they do not abide by the National Code of Practice for the Humane Killing of Kangaroos. Compliance with the Code is a licence condition for commercial shooters in all states.

Kangaroo products processed for export, including meat, must undergo inspection by Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service (AQIS) officials. A breach of government regulations relating to the export of kangaroo meat may lead to fines of up to $250 000 or imprisonment of up to ten years or both.
Kangaroo meat

The Australian kangaroo industry estimates that it exports kangaroo meat to more than 55 countries. Kangaroo meat is increasingly popular and export markets are expected to increase since kangaroo is considered one of the finest game meats. Its growing appeal stems from its well-flavoured, slightly gamey taste. Kangaroo meat contains very little saturated fat relative to other meats and is high in protein, zinc and iron.

The European Union and Russia are the most significant markets with the USA and Asia becoming increasingly important. All kangaroo meat processed for export undergoes strict inspection by the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service to ensure that it is fit for human consumption.

In addition, all kangaroo meat processing plants must have a certificate of registration and are examined and certified in accordance with the strict requirements of importing countries.
Kangaroo furs, skins and leather

Kangaroo skins and furs are exported to a large number of markets in Europe, the USA and Asia.

Kangaroo skins are exported in different stages of treatment: salted, pickled (semi-processed) and tanned. Like all kangaroo exports, these products are strictly sourced from only the six most abundant species outlined above.

Some kangaroo skins are traded as furs, while others are sold for the leather.

Although pickled skins generate the most export earnings of all kangaroo skins and furs, there is a growing export trade in finished kangaroo leather. Kangaroo skin is renowned for being very strong, yet light in weight. It is ideal for use in the manufacture of high-quality leather goods, including footwear. Because of kangaroo leather’s high tensile strength, it is also suitable for the manufacture of sporting footwear.

While only a limited number of kangaroos of certain species may be harvested, a full range of high-quality kangaroo products is available for international markets.

Do Our Pets Really Love Us?

In the English language, we have just one word to describe the different types of love. The ancient Greeks were a bit smarter in this respect; they used different words to describe the love for a spouse, a sibling, a parent or a friend.

You have to wonder which word they used to describe the love between pets and people. We know how we feel towards our pets, but do they experience the same emotions toward us? Or is the bond simply a mixture of instinct, dependence and social role?

In short, do our pets really "love" us, as we understand it? In a word, the answer is yes, according to clinical evidence. Food does play a large role in feelings of affection between pet and owner. But dog does not live by biscuit alone – and neither does a cat's affection depend solely on treats. The mere presence and/or touch of a preferred person has been shown to reduce the heart rate of these animals – a sign of bonding. (The same is true with horses.)

Puppy Love
Like people, dogs don't simply like or love someone just because they are there. The personality of the pet and the person makes a large difference. A dominant or independent dog, for instance, is less likely to become enamored with a submissive owner. But he may become attached to someone who is a strong leader. This same person may terrify a dog that has endured hard times. A dog like this is more likely to adore a comparatively gentle owner.

In his book, Dogs Don't Lie About Love, Jeffrey Masson wrote about his relationship with three rescued dogs. Presuming that these dogs were needy, and he is a kind person, the title makes sense. These dogs very likely wear their adoring hearts on their sleeves, so to speak. In my first book, The Dog Who Loved Too Much, I wrote about a needy, hyper-attached dog with separation anxiety. It was the dog's owner who came up with the title to describe her dog's apparent, total devotion and intolerance of separation.

Some dogs do become hopelessly devoted to their owners, greeting them so exuberantly that the owner has no doubt he or she is the center of the dog's universe. But this kind of love is fawning, pathetic and, in a way, self-serving to the dog. It is certainly not a healthy sort of love.

At the other end is a very dominant, confident and independent dog. These dogs may border on indifference, and their feelings are along the lines of tolerance than attachment. They tolerate the owners simply because they are fed.

What is far better is the love in which a dog has learned to trust and respect his owner without abject humility, fear or desperate need to be around all the time. The image this brings to mind is that of a mature Labrador or golden retriever, walking beside his beloved owners, perhaps on the beach. Such dogs have enough confidence to run off and play in the ocean, but enjoy returning to the social group that is the family. This can be described as a healthy love.

Of course, there are those special bonds we have all heard about – when an owner dies, but his or her dog waits patiently for their return. Such was the case of Greyfriars Bobby, an Edinburg dog who sat by his master's grave for many years, until his death, waiting for his master's return. If that is not love, I don't know what is.

Love of a Cat

Cats are said to be independent, aloof, and not in need of company except on their terms. This is true only of some cats; certainly not all. Cats raised by people from an early age either think they are almost human, or that the human is almost a cat.

In fact, throughout a cat-person bond, the two may switch roles without realizing it. On occasion, a cat will bring home a dead or half-dead animal as a token of her love and respect (a touching, if gruesome, method of confirming the bond).

Bringing home "love offerings" of this type is a sign of attachment and belonging. There are others that require less clean up. When the bond is strong, a cat will:

Tend to follow you around. She may not follow immediately, but after a moment or two she might casually saunter into the room where you're sitting (as if she's trying to play the whole thing down). Your cat may jump in your lap or may just find a chair nearby. Either way, she prefers to spend time with you.

Become slightly depressed when you leave, and greet you enthusiastically upon your return. She may learn to recognize the sound of your car pulling up and run to the door, expecting your presence.

Send subtle cat signals of affection to you throughout the day. These often take the form of classic "cat kisses" – staring at you adoringly, then squinting or slowly closing her eyes.

Send not-so-subtle signals, such as rubbing her head upon you (marking you with her scent), and of course, purring.

Lying on her back, with her stomach exposed. This is a sign of trust, because your cat is now in a vulnerable position. Many owners mistakenly think this is a request for a belly rub. It usually isn't.

This is a cat's affection at its most intense. They can't hold your hand, and they are not given to jumping up and kissing you. There's no difficulty to describe this sort of relationship as love.

Jealousy

If dogs and cats do love us, do they feel jealousy? The answer: not in the same way. They may perceive a change in hierarchy or status when a new person or animal comes in, which changes their behavior (this is particularly true of a new animal). Change in routine is upsetting to both dogs and cats, and they react accordingly.

Animals Group

There are six groups of Animals. On the other hand, a lion is a supreme warrior with a dominating attitude and an appearance to frighten even the mightiest of animals. There is now no possibility of these creatures meeting in the wild. Even when they might have shared prey population there might not have been many fights since the big cats adjust their area and hunting habits naturally (doesn’t mean voluntarily) to allow everyone a share. But there have been some real fights between the two kings of the jungle, both in and out of an arena.

While debating about animals, one must keep in mind that they are not programmed robots, and so each individual will have its own characteristics within a certain range. The stereotypes, with which the animals are often characterized, may prove wrong more often than not. Also generalizing certain observations may only lead to wrong conclusions. One pack of hunting dogs killing one lion doesn’t make the dogs killers of lions. Also, some brown bears being hunted by some Amur tigers don’t prove that tigers are natural bear-killers and wins against bears in any situation.
There have been tiger versus lion fights staged by different people. Also, some animal experts have worked closely with both lions and tigers and have made careful observations. So, what do the evidences and experts (and common sense) say about who stands a better chance of winning a fight between the two?

Gorilla family killed

Gorilla Family killed

A family of mountain gorillas, including a pregnant female, were found shot dead in a Congolese national park. Conservation workers later found an injured baby gorilla which is now being cared for by vets in the town of Goma, just outside the park.

The gorilla family was well known to conservationists and villagers outside the park and had been named the Rugendo family, after the silverback. The group frequently roamed out of the park and into neighbouring villages to eat crops, but the villagers were used to them and would bang on pots and pans to scare them back into the park. Conservationists are confident they would not harm the gorillas as they have always shown great respect for them.

We are calling for an international independent investigation into the massacre to aid local efforts to find and punish the culprits before any more gorillas are killed.

There are estimated to be less than 700 mountain gorillas left in the world and the death of these gorillas is a severe setback to the conservation efforts ongoing in the country.

ZSL Bushmeat and Forests Conservation Programme Manager Dr Noelle Kumpel said: “The loss of a pregnant gorilla, two breeding females and a silverback is a devastating blow to the already beleaguered mountain gorilla population. If this pointless slaughter goes on we could be looking at the extinction of this wonderful and charismatic species in the near future.”

Since the gorillas were found slaughtered more guards have been drafted in to reinforce the patrols around the area. Each gorilla family now has a patrol assigned just to protect them. Funds have been diverted to put a gorilla security action plan in place, but only for three-months. More money is needed to protect them after this period.

The ZSL Bushmeat and Forest Conservation Programme works in a number of countries to protect forest species from poaching and other threats including habitat loss. In DRC the society, funded by the European Union, works in partnership with the ICCN (Congolese Conservation Institute) to help manage Virunga National Park and protect the wildlife in it.

About Gorilla Life

Gorillas are large, quiet, gentle apes that live in Africa. Because of massive loss of habitat, these majestic primates are in great danger of going extinct.

ANATOMY
Gorillas have very long arms (the arms are longer than the legs), and a short, bulky body with a wide chest.
Hair and Skin:
Gorillas are covered with brownish hair on most of their body (except their fingers, palms, face, armpits, and bottoms of their feet).

The Head:
Gorillas have a very large head with a bulging forehead, a crest on top (it is called the sagittal crest, and is larger on male gorillas), tiny ears, and small, dark-brown eyes. Gorillas have no tail. Adult gorillas have 32 teeth, with large molars (flat teeth used for chewing food) and large canines (pointy teeth used for biting), which are especially large in the male gorillas. Gorillas each have a unique nose print (like we have unique fingerprints).

Senses:
Gorillas have senses very similar to ours, including hearing, sight (they seem to be slightly nearsighted and to have color vision), smell, taste, and touch.

Hands and Feet:
Gorillas' hands are very much like ours; they have five fingers, including an opposable thumb. Their feet have five toes, including an opposable big toe. Gorillas can grasp things with both their hands and their feet.

  SIZE
Male gorillas are much larger than the females, and are almost twice as heavy. Adult male gorillas are called silverbacks because they have a saddle-shaped patch of silver hair on their backs after they are about 12 years of age.

Gorillas

Height

Weight

Female

4.6 ft (1.4 m)

200 lb (90 kg)

Male

5.6 ft (1.7 m)

400 lb (180 kg)

    DIET
Gorillas are predominantly herbivores, eating mostly plant material. They forage for food in the forests during the day. They eat leaves, fruit, seeds, tree bark, plant bulbs, tender plant shoots, and flowers. They have been known to eat various parts of over 200 different plant species. Occasionally, gorillas supplement their diet with termites and ants.
Gorillas rarely drink water; the water contained in their diet is apparently enough to sustain them.

An average adult male eats approximately 50 pounds of food a day.
INTELLIGENCE AND LANGUAGE
Gorillas are very intelligent and can learn extremely complex tasks.

Language:
Some gorillas have been taught sign language by people; these gorillas learned how to form simple sentences and communicate with people.

Tools:
Gorillas have never been observed using tools in the wild, although they have been taught to use them in captivity.
BEHAVIOR AND SOCIAL HABITS
Bands of Gorillas:
Gorillas are shy, social animals that are active during the day (they are diurnal). They live in small groups (or bands) of 6-7 individuals, including one silverback (adult male), a few females, and their young. When the young mature, they go off and join or form another band.

Grooming:
Grooming one another (cleaning the hair of another gorilla) is a major occupation among gorillas in a band. Female gorillas groom their offspring, one another, and the silverback; the silverback does not groom others.

Sleeping Nests:
Each evening, gorillas construct a "nest" for the night in which they will curl up and sleep. These bowl-shaped nests are made out of leaves and other plant material. Nests are only shared by a mother and her nursing offspring. Scientists who study gorillas can easily estimate a local gorilla population by counting the number of "nests."

Aggression:
Gorillas are not aggressive animals. When an intruder disturbs them, they may make a lot of noise, but they rarely confront another animal.

  COMMUNICATION AND VOCALIZATION
Gorillas are generally quiet animals. They communicate with each other using many complicated sounds and gestures. Gorillas use at least 25 recognized vocalizations, including grunts, roars, growls, whines, chuckles, hooting, etc. Some gorilla gestures include chest-beating, high-pitched barks, lunging, throwing objects, staring, lip-tucking , sticking out the tongue, sideways running, slapping, rising to a two-legged stance, etc.

Communication is used to teach the young the many skills that they need to survive, and for other gorillas to communicate about food, social relationships, distress, mating, etc.

  LOCOMOTION
Gorillas knuckle-walk using both their legs and their long arms (putting pressure on their knuckles, with the fingers rolled into the hand). Gorillas rarely walk using only their legs. They can climb trees, but do not do so very often. Gorillas cannot swim.

  LIFE SPAN
Gorillas live about 50 years in captivity; their life span in the wild is only about 35 years (like most animals, they live much longer in captivity).

  HABITAT
Gorillas are primarily terrestrial (although they lived in trees back in their evolutionary past). Gorillas live in tropical rain forests (in the forest edges and clearings), wet lowland forests, swamps, and abandoned fields.

  DISTRIBUTION
The different subspecies of gorillas live in different parts of western Africa.

Subspecies G. g. gorilla, the western lowland gorilla, is found at low altitudes in Cameroon, Central African Republic, Gabon, Congo, and Equatorial Guinea.

Subspecies G. g. graueri, the eastern lowland gorilla, is found in eastern Zaire.

Subspecies G. g. beringei, the mountain gorilla, is found at high altitudes (from 5,400 to 12,440 feet or 1,650 to 3,800 m) in Zaire, Rwanda, and Uganda.

    REPRODUCTION AND BABY GORILLAS
Gorillas are fully grown and able to reproduce at 10-12 years old. Female gorillas are pregnant for about 8 to 9.5 months and have about 3 babies in their lifetime. Newborn gorillas weigh only about 3-4 pounds (1.4 to 1.8 kg) at birth (about half the weight of a newborn human).
Female gorillas carefully nurture their young. Baby gorillas learn to crawl at about 2 months (much earlier than humans) and can walk before they are 9 months old (earlier than most humans). They can grasp their mother's fur to ride on the mother's back at 4 months. Baby gorillas are fed mother's milk for the first 2 1/2 years of life. When they are weaned, gorillas begin to build their own sleeping nests out of vegetation (and not use their mother's nest anymore). Young gorillas stay with their mother for 3-4 years. Adult male gorillas (silverbacks) will care for weaned orphaned young gorillas.
POPULATION COUNTS
Gorilla populations are decreasing; they are in danger of extinction. Scientists estimate that there are roughly 50,000 gorillas left in the wild in Africa. Most of these are western lowland gorillas; there are only about 600 mountain gorillas and 2,500 eastern lowland gorillas. Mountain gorillas are on the verge of extinction.
THE EVOLUTION OF GORILLAS
The earliest-known primates date from about 70 million years ago (Macdonald, 1985). The greater apes (family Pongidae, gorillas, chimpanzees, bonobos, and orangutans) split off from the lesser apes (family Hylobatidae, gibbons and siamangs) 20 million years ago. The gorilla's closest relative genetically is the chimpanzee (who is also our closest relative in the animal kingdom).

Dinosaurs Life

Dinosaurs were the dominant vertebrate animals of terrestrial ecosystems for over 160 million years, from the late Triassic period (about 230 million years ago) until the end of the Cretaceous period (65 million years ago), when most of them became extinct in the Cretaceous–Tertiary extinction event. The 10,000 living species of birds have been classified as dinosaurs.

The 1861 discovery of the primitive bird Archaeopteryx first suggested a close relationship between dinosaurs and birds. Aside from the presence of fossilized feather impressions, Archaeopteryx was very similar to the contemporary small predatory dinosaur Compsognathus. Research has since identified theropod dinosaurs as the most likely direct ancestors of birds; most paleontologists today regard birds as the only surviving dinosaurs, and some suggest that dinosaurs and birds should be grouped into one biological class. Aside from birds, crocodilians are the only other close relatives of dinosaurs to have survived until the present day. Like dinosaurs and birds, crocodilians are members of Archosauria, a group of reptiles that first appeared in the very late Permian and came to predominate in the mid-Triassic.

Through the first half of the 20th century, most of the scientific community believed dinosaurs to have been slow, unintelligent cold-blooded animals. Most research conducted since the 1970s, however, has supported the view that dinosaurs were active animals with elevated metabolisms and numerous adaptations for social interaction. The resulting transformation in the scientific understanding of dinosaurs has gradually filtered into popular consciousness.

Since the first dinosaur fossils were recognized in the early nineteenth century, mounted dinosaur skeletons have become major attractions at museums around the world. Dinosaurs have become a part of world culture and remain consistently popular. They have been featured in best-selling books and films (notably Jurassic Park), and new discoveries are regularly covered by the media.

The term "dinosaur" was coined in 1842 by Sir Richard Owen. These tail feathers, or coverts, spread out in a distinctive train that is more than 60 percent of the bird’s total body length and boast colorful "eye" markings of blue, gold, red, and other hues. The large train is used in mating rituals and courtship displays. It can be arched into a magnificent fan that reaches across the bird's back and touches the ground on either side. Females are believed to choose their mates according to the size, color, and quality of these outrageous feather trains.

The term "peacock" is commonly used to refer to birds of both sexes. Technically, only males are peacocks. Females are peahens, and together, they are called peafowl.

Suitable males may gather harems of several females, each of which will lay three to five eggs. In fact, wild peafowl often roost in forest trees and gather in groups called parties.

Peacock Picture

Indian Peacock at Rajasthan

Sniffer Dogs

A detection dog known as a Sniffer Dog, is a dog that is trained to and works at using its senses (almost always the sense of smell) to detect substances such as explosives, illegal drugs, or blood. They are often known as sniffer dogs. Hunting dogs that search for game and search dogs that search for missing humans are generally not considered detection dogs. There is some overlap, as in the case of cadaver dogs, trained to detect human remains. In the state of California, dogs are trained to detect the Quagga Mussel on boats at public boat ramps, as it is a invasive species. Sniffer dogs have also been enlisted to find bumblebee nests. The Bumblebee Conservation Trust has trained a springer spaniel to detect the colonies, assisting them with the conservation of threatened species.

Dogs vs. Terrorists Around the World

o matter what faith, spiritual doctrine or moral precept there is, you can count on there being someone who will try to misrepresent it and—as is the case with global outlaw Osama Bin Laden and his Taliban cohorts—pervert its message under a contrived banner of righteousness and religion. In the weeks to come, there is bound to be a lot of turbulence as the world tries to sift the "good guys" from the "bad guys", since this war is not directed against any quantifiable nation or people or religion but rather at the isolated bands of terrorist guerillas who exploit them all.
But maybe it's not so hard to figure out who's who. Simply ask: "Who's side are the dogs on?

The new war against terrorism has certainly focused the world's eyes on the courageous canines working in New York City and Washington, DC. But dogs all over the planet—of all cultures, creeds and breeds—are no less worthy of admiration for being the first and best line of defense against terrorist acts.

"If a dog will not come to you after having looked you in the face, you should go home and examine your conscience."
—Woodrow Wilson, 26th President of the United States of America

Dewclaws up.

Sunderban Tiger

The Sunderbans forest is really dense and it is also one of the largest mangroves in all over the world and it is also known to be the only kind with tiger habitat. The forest spreds aorund an area of more than 10,000 sq.km. of mangrove forest as well as water. The forest is not fully under India it is around 40% in West Bengal, India and the rest of the part is in Bangladesh.

The Sunderbans forest is a part of one of the world's largest delta formed by the rivers Brahmaputra, Ganges, and Meghna. Seventy five percent of the Sunderbans is fully water logged. During high tide, it's height reaches up to 7.5 m. The main reason for becoming Sunderban popular are from the predominance of the tree species, which is locally called as Sundari, because of its beutiful and elegant look.
Quickfacts:

Area : 2608 sq. kms.
Altitude : Sea Level.
Temperature
Summer:
Max: 42C, Min. 37C;
Winter:
Max: 29, Min. 9.2.
Best season : September to March. Tigersand Crocodile reign in the land and over the waters along with few Sharks. The great achievemnet for the Sunderban forests is that it has Tiger Reserve holding more tigers than any other tiger reserve centre and according to the latest census the tiger population is near around 287. These Sunderban Tigers have adopted themselves to the saline and watery environment easily and they are also practically amphibious and good swimmers.

Point Of Tourist Interest

In Sunderban forests, there is a area called Sajnekhali Tiger Project Area where you will cruise down the Matla river and reach Sajnekhali Tiger Reserve at the junction of Peechkhali and Gomti River. You will also witness Mangrove Interpretation Center a Museum, the WatchTower, Deer Feeding and Monkeys. The pond for Crocodile project is also worth watching . The temple of Bon Bibi, the goddess of the forest is prayed to protect the honey collectors, wood cutters, and fisher men. It is strictly recommended that one should return back to the boat before dark because free roaming in these area might invite danger though the place is well protected.

Save Tiger

As we all know that the "Tiger" is one of the most famous animals in the globe. Tiger is also supposed to be one of the most endangered. Tiger has beautiful look of catty (cat), strength like lion, and dignity. Now just from the eight original subspecies of tigers, only three have become extinct for the last 60 years and out of them only five subspecies of tigers existing in the world today and that too their condition is miserable. These five subspecies are known as Bengal, Sumatran, Siberian, South China and Indochinese. It's very sad to inform that there are even less than 50 tigers of South China left on this planet. The remaining three subspecies of tiger, lost their existence are Caspian, Bali and Javan in the past 7 decades. From the last count, the figure is around 5,000 to 7,000 tigers are alive in the wild.

The huge demands for the skins, teeth and claws of tigers across Southeast Asia is the main reason for low numbers of the great cats. Sumatran tiger are mainly targeted to fulfill the above demands. Their demand for those is all over the world but mainly it is centered in Asia because in Asia, there is a big market for medicines which is made from tiger bone and other body parts. The number of tigers are decreasing day by day but still there has been very little enforcement action against those poachers and traders.

How to Save the Tiger:

It makes everyone duty to find out the reasons on how to save the Tiger and with the same time, we should also give focus on how to increase those numbers because at the end of the day it will hep us. It is important that Local institutions and people who take care of Tigers should personally and closely involved in managing tigers at the local level. In most of the situations, it is seen that without the full participation whose livelihoods depend on rights, a sustainable tiger conservation strategy cannot be acheived. External Institutions for welfare of animals such as NGOs, government departments, and banks, should come up with new ideas and methods to take care of tigers. They can facilitate processes by which local groups develop their sense of ownership and responsibility.
